The island of Korcula – events worth attending


Lusko lito is an entertaining programme during the summer months that takes place in Vela Luka and allows visitors to enjoy performances of the folklore society Kumpanija that take place every week, as well as numerous concerts of entertaining and traditional klapa songs, fishermen nights and theatre performances. The cultural and entertainment programme in Lumbarda is called Lumbrajske uzance which are being held every year in the period of 08.06.-28.09., and are comprised of folklore performances, Friday fishermen nights, klapa concerts and the church choir, exhibitions and poetry nights. Especially interesting is the small size soccer tournament, tug of war and the donkey race.

Moreska is a romantic war dance with swords, which was created in the 12th and 13th century on the Mediterranean area. It is an attractive war dance depicting a battle between good and evil and the final victory of good. This event is unique and will not leave you indifferent. Mostra is a similar olden war dance that takes place in the village of Zrnovo, accompanied by misnice (an instrument similar to bagpipes) and drums. The dancers are wearing old island costumes and other island customs are also being shown.

Marko Polo fest takes place in the end of July. It is a festival of song, wine and autochthonic Croatian products and from the end of July until mid of August in the city centre of Korcula you can visit the Marko Polo farmers market.
